Christmas

Well the baptisms went well, but were also very interesting. Donald tryed to baptize Zeena, but he either couldnt get the words right or couldnt get her under so brother phillips just had to do both baptisms. In this ward Brother Phillips likes the members to do as much as they can, so really all we did was get everything all lined up and let the ward run the show. There really isnt anything special going on this next week. We are still going to be working on getting Daniel to quit his smoking habit and do normal missionary stuff. But Christmas was good, we ate soup and rolls at Bishop Oesers house for lunch, had prime rib and mashed potatoes and cheesecake at the phillips for dinner, and then had cake, pecan bars and homeade oreos at the Deckers. We held the Makars off from any food, but the Packers feed us monkey bread muffins so we were pretty stuffed. Having sacrament first was really wierd for me for the first 6 weeks or so, but know I am about used to it. I will still be going to church at 10 because we are the only ward in the building. I thought the visit was awesome, it is always good to talk with you guys, and especially to facetime and to see you. Have a good week

New Companion

So this week has been a really good week. The weather has been about 65 degrees everyday and we have been able to teach a lot of people. We are teaching a 96 year old WW2 veteran even. We have 3 people with a baptismal date for december 26, courtney and her 8 year old daughter Zeena, and Daniel. Also, yesterday was really cool because we had 5 investigators at church. The 3 with baptismal dates, plus jim who comes every week, and the really suprising one was Donques. It really was amazing that he came, so hopefully he comes back. So yes, wednesday i got my new companion. His name is Elder Ty Koppenhafer ( I get all the harder longer names haha) he is from Mancus, Colorado, which is over kinda by Blanding and Durango. He is a hard worker, his family also has cows and he likes sports too. We are even more similiar than elder Schmidtke and I, we both go about things in about the same ways. He is a good guy, his dad isnt a member and he has 2 siblings. So the first week has gone great, he has only been out 6 months and served that whole time in a area called Medina. Yes, he is the district leader. We also got a new rule yesterday that we can only use computers that are church computers, except to call home. I could be emailing at any time of the day now. So on Christmas I will either facetime or skype ( I guess try to get it set up) about 11 a.m. here so 9 in the morning for you. We are going to go to the Phillips to do that. I also will not be able to talk to you until Christmas, since that is our next preparation day. I will for sure go and check the mail on thursday and im sure I will be informed about the packages as soon as they get there haha. But I am doing great, I has been really busy, especially since I am pretty much telling us what to do for the first little while because Elder Koppenhafer doesnt know anything about the area. Thanks for all the updates and all the support. I forgot to mention I also got  aunt Jeny's postcard last week. I  got letters from aunt shirley, the stake presidency, the seminary, and Kelly Hunt this week, so you could tell them thanks so much.  I am still getting feed well, Sister Myers doesnt mess around as I have told you about getting us meals. I am starting to get into the grove of things I guess you could say, but still adjusting a little bit. It is going to start cooling down a little bit thought, so maybe winter will be here by the time I talk to you next week. But I'm doing good. It sounds like you guys are doing good and I hope that it keeps up. Have a wonderful week.

Lessons as a Missionary

So the news for this week is that I am staying in Kirtland for this transfer and for Christmas. My companion got called on Sunday to be Zone leader on the other side of the state in Lima, so i will be getting a new companion tomorrow. So now I am just going to be a regular missionary I guess you could say because my new companion is the District Leader too. He has been great and has taught me a lot, especially about being a better missionary. I have for sure learned quite a bit out here. For one how powerful prayer is, if we dont pray before we go to work for the day, or even before lessons or tracting, nothing really seems to work. But a simple prayer makes all the difference. Brother Phillips taught me that one. I am getting better at making decisions too, thanks to my companion. He has put me in charge of what we are doing the past week and a half and it has really helped me a lot. And many other things as well. For the people we are teaching, we now have 2 baptismal dates, one a man named Daniel, and the other a woman named Courtney. There dates are for the 26 of december. They are both willing to drive anywhere to meet us a almost anytime of the day. Jamie is still coming along slowly, as with about 4 others, but we did get a refferal from the Phillips to teach sister phillips sister so we will see hertomorrow and she looks really promising and they are super excited because they are the only members in their family not counting their kids. It is still only getting down into the 20s at night and no snow. We also had christmas conference with the whole mission in Kirtland last tuesday. It was really fun, they had a really good lunch and we even got to watch The Best 2 Years. I think everyone was suprised by that because if you knew President Brown that is not like him, he is a pretty strict man and has really tightened things up since he has got here. Only the assistants could have talked him into that because he had to get it approved in Salt Lake. I really do appreciate all the support, it is awesome, especially because all the site sisters dont care for me getting letters and packages too much haha.  Thanks again for all you do and I will be in Kirtland for six more weeks.  Love you all and hopefully the Jazz are doing good, the basketball team wins a few, and my 1/2 of the bull keeps looking nice.
